Good afternoon, Brother Knights,
Some of the St. James Council 7152 Brother Knights have completed the second drive of donations to the Burnsville community in the northwest of North Carolina. Our DGK spearheaded the second drive with various Brother Knights helping out. The donations came from the parishioners of St. Philip the Apostle Church, the community of Larkins in Troutman, and the community of Lakewalk in Mooresville. This mission was accomplished, and we couldn’t have done it without all of you digging deep and giving generously. We had various stops to drop off the donations in Burnsville that ended up not being able to take our donations because of logistic problems getting a permanent location established. The National Guard was establishing a location that day, but we could not drop the donations off there as it wasn’t yet complete. We finally found a location in Burnsville that was able to accept our two trucks and a trailer full of donated items. Another Brother Knight was able to drop his donations at a Baptist Church after finding our location had filled up and was unable to handle any more donations. I saw people grabbing warm coats, paper products, toiletries, and blankets., etc. as we started off loading the donations. I happened to see a 6-year-old looking at a simple stuffed dog toy and she asked her mom if she could have it. It was heart wrenching to watch how happy this simple dog toy made her. They had lost everything. The young girl hugged the toy dog as she walked away with a smile. During the drive up the water damage was very evident and catastrophic. I have been in various third world countries while serving in the Navy and seeing this situation was unbelievable. I want to thank everyone who helped with the donations and support in delivering these items to this community.
